Guadalajara
Population: 5,200,000
Overview
Guadalajara is CJNG's home base, which ironically makes the metro area relatively stable—the cartel maintains order in its core territory. Violence is largely exported to the periphery. The city functions normally for business and tourism, but travelers should maintain awareness and avoid displaying wealth.
General Guidance
Central Guadalajara and upscale areas (Providencia, Zapopan) are accessible with standard precautions. Avoid southern Jalisco and rural areas. Don't travel Highway 15D south. Puerto Vallarta tourist zone is generally secure.
